20 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was Twenty

2014-07-21 (Monday) by Mikael Linusson

This is not by far a complete list and it is quite silly to wish that things should have been different in the past. But to be honest I mostly wrote this list to give you all a few great guidelines about live that I recommend that you think through.

So here is a list of things I wish I knew and truly understood when I was 20. Things I wish I had implemented and lived by. They aren't ordered in any special order.

I wish I knew that...

1. ...taking your health seriously and exercising and eathing healthy is the wise thing to do.

2. ...you can be, do, and have more or less anything in life if you only help enough other people get what they want.

3. ...having goals, making detailed step by step plans, and taking action is how you get things done in life.

4. ...the best way to make money is to create value for other people. To help and entertain, to be of service, to create value.

5. ...saving money is a really smart thing to do if you intend to become a millionaire, become financially free, or just to be able to sleep better at night. Save at least 10% of your income. If you can't save that much then save as much as you can. And don't spend those savings, like ever.

6. ...reading personal development books is a great thing to do. At least a few really great ones.

7. ...you can learn more or less anything you want if you just put enough time in.

8. ...people will like you a lot more if you are a nice and loving person who gives love instead of trying to get it. No one likes needy and/or demanding people.

9. ...you better accept 100% responsibilty for what's going on in your life. You can't always control what happens to you, but you can control how you react and what you do about it. By accepting the responsibility you give yourself the power to change things, which is way better than playing some silly blame game and behaving like a loser.

10. ...you can program and reprogram yourself, for example through the use of affirmations. Which means that it is up to you to become the kind of person you truly want to be.

11. ...you get rid of your fears by doing the things you fear. Avoiding them will only hold you back.

12. ...there is something called a comfort zone and you better do whatever you can to expand it as much as you can. Growing as a human being is an amazing thing to do.

13. ...having less things is a really great thing. It is a kind of freedom and it makes it way easier to keep everything in order. Cleaning your home is so much more fun when you don't have things spread out all over the place. With less things there is no need to declutter a lot every time you clean.

14. ...you become what you think about, i.e. you are where you are in life because of the thoughts you have thought up until this moment, and in the future you will be where you are because of the thoughts you think from now on. This is the famous Law of Attraction, which no one gets away from. Like attracts like, so think and behave in a way that is a good match with what you want in life. Always remember: Your thoughts can either be your best friend or your worst enemy depending on how you use them. So use them wisely.

15. ...failure is the way we learn. It's okay to fail. It's human nature, you are supposed to do it. The same thing goes for making mistakes, learn from them and get on with your life.

16. ...you don't need to drink a lot of alcohol to have fun. In fact, you don't need to drink any at all.

17. ...having a todo lists and organizing your life would simplify your life and free up your mind to think about more important things. As a bonus it also helps you not miss anything important.

18. ...moods are contagious. If you are seeing a lot of grumpy people everywhere then maybe, just maybe, you should check to see what kind of mood you yourself are in.

19. ...you better learn to think positive. Positive thoughts isn't the solution to everything and every problem in life, but it is always better and more effective than negative thoughts.

20. ...you can come a long way with a smile and some nice words. And don't forget to be respectful and friendly, it's actually really fun.
